Our Marketing Director and Lighting Designer Joe Naftal was invited to be a presenter and share his insight and talents with studio owners from around the world at the Energize 2017: Tools for Studio Success conference held in Chicago August 25th – 27th. His presentation was titled “Stand by in the Wings: Producing the Perfect Recital from Behind the Scenes” I was able to talk to him about this fantastic opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with other studio professionals.
How did you get involved with this speaking opportunity?
I work as a contributor for
DanceStudioOwner.com as well as sit on their Studio Owner Expert Panel.
DanceStudioOwner.com is a subsidiary of Revolution Dancewear, so when they were planning this event, they asked me if I’d be willing to head out to Chicago to be one of their presenters. I had done a previous version of the seminar last year at the Dance Teacher Summit in NYC.
What were the most important points of your presentation?
Bridging the gap between studio owners/dance teachers and lighting/sound designers and technicians to help studio owners create an exciting and memorable recital productions.
Were you able to participate in any other panel discussions/view other presentations?
Aside from my solo presentation, I sat on the “Recital Branding” discussion panel. I also was the lighting consultant for Revolution Dancewear and Tenth House costume collection’s 2018 season launch fashion show at Energize.
What is your favorite part about participating in a knowledge sharing event of this type?
Getting to meet studio owners from across the world. Every day we get to meet new people, swap stories, share ideas, and learn from each other.
Are you scheduled to participate in any future conferences?
Not yet. The Energize Conference closed out the dance conference and trade show circuit. But we are working to develop the seminar into a webinar for
DanceStudioOwner.com.
Did you get to see some of the city while you were attending the conference?
We got to visit the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park, “the Bean”, and have some Deep Dish pizza.
We are so proud to have Mr. Joe contribute to the education of fellow members of the dance community! Congratulations Joe!
