57 Students Auditioned for Recital Company

On Sunday, January 21st, fifty seven dancers auditioned for the 2018 Recital Company – the largest number of auditionees in Dance Connection history! Each year, the Recital Company performs a featured production number for our Annual Recital Production (usually opening the show). The company offers members a fantastic additional performance opportunity, teaching them commitment and professionalism, while also exposing them to additional dance training and choreography.

This year, there will be two recital company productions in the recital.  The senior & junior companies will perform “Beauty and the Beast” as the opening to the show.  The petite company will perform a separate featured production of “Hard Knocked Life” from the Broadway musical Annie.

In the morning, the recital company choreographers had their traditional audition day breakfast & lunch – morning buns from Stanley’s Bakery and sandwiches and salads from Parkville Plaza Deli. Dancers auditioning for our junior & senior recital companies arrived, were lead in a warmup by Miss Emily, and learned choreography from Miss Tiffany, Miss Melinda, and Miss Mary to “Be Our Guest” and “The Battle”.

After the junior & senior company auditions, Miss Mary lead a Parent Meeting for new members to our Petite company.  She explained the commitments involved, the expectations of the dancers from the teachers, as well as gave her heartfelt advice for new parents on how to best support their dancers through both the audition process and company rehearsals.  The petite company dancers learned choreography for “Hard Knock Life” from Miss Donna and Miss Victoria.

Overall, the dancers had a fun, positive, and dance-filled audition day.  Audition result letters will be sent out next week and our first Recital Company rehearsal is Friday, February 3!
