In Step With DC
A Day in the Life of Dance Connection
Written by Erin Sforza on November 10, 2017

Every day at Dance Connection is different. Even though we have the same set of classes every week, you wouldn’t necessarily be able to say any given week is routine. Every week our students feel differently, we work on different skills, and we add more counts of eight to our recital choreography. We might be measuring for costumes, partying for the holidays, cozy in our jammies or getting ready for Dress Rehearsal Week. (It’s closer than you think!)

There are some things however, that we do every day, like working hard to maintain a clean, comfortable, and inviting atmosphere for all of our students and parents. It’s one of the best parts of my day at the reception desk when I get to make sure that everything is clean and the coffee and tea water are ready to help me welcome my Saturday families, and Tuesday and Thursday night I’m working to make sure our staff and families the following morning have a sparkling studio to return to. We also are constantly checking our dancewear inventory, making sure all of the info is available on the studio info screens, and we’re prepping for upcoming party weeks or events.

During the week the studio is opened, cleaned, and prepped for morning classes. Once those classes have ended, the office staff works on our weekly and monthly maintenance jobs, and Miss Mary, Miss Melinda, and Mr. Joe are planning for future events and working on all of the requirements of keeping the studio running. They take a break for lunch before returning to the studio to spruce things up for our afternoon and evening classes. Then it’s all about the teaching until closing, which more often than not is around 11:00 pm! Once our classes are done for the day, the classrooms and studio are cleaned from top to bottom, and re-set so everything is ready to do it again tomorrow.

Saturday is a little different, because from open to close we are all about classes. I come in before the 9:00 am start of classes to clean and set up the studio, and usually I have company from some of our Competition Team dancers who are practicing. Once classes start the studio is a buzz with activity and happy students and parents. After classes are done, the teachers and I clean the studio up, and sometimes we are surrounded by our Competition Team dancers who are there for rehearsal, or prepping for a birthday party (another fun part of working at DC!).

No matter what day of the week it is we are always the best kind of busy, and we love that there is something different to look forward to every day!

We shot a little video to give you an idea of what a Saturday at Dance Connection looks like. Hope you enjoy!
