All About Costume Measurement Week
Written by Erin Sforza on November 3, 2017

The music has been chosen and the costumes selected, so now it’s time to get everyone measured! Here’s a quick primer for Costume Measurement Week which happens November 6th – 11th.

Dancers will be measured during class time for their recital costumes. Parents will be invited in for the measurements to be taken, and our teachers and assistant teachers will take measurements of your dancer’s bust, waist, hips, girth, and possible inseam if their costume has pants. These measurements will be listed on a personalized costume form that will give you all of the information that you will need to order your dancer’s costume. It will also list pricing, and expedited shipping fees if you happen to order the costume after the December 2nd deadline.

A couple of important tips about costume measurement and orders:

  • The most important measurement on the page is the dancer’s girth. That is the measurement of their entire torso, so if you get a costume that is too small it will be riding up on them or worse it could cut into their shoulders. If the costume girth is too long it will fall right off them. If your dancer measures at the longest length of one size it’s best to move up to the next size. Most likely they will grow between now and June.
  • We enter the measurements into our studio system, so if you happen to misplace the form you can always get in contact with us at the studio to get the measurements.
  • We are here to help you! If you need guidance about sizing or any of the optional items (garment bag or make-up) our studio staff is here to assist you. We can place your order at the reception desk if you prefer instead of ordering on our website.
  • Make sure to review the spelling of your dancer’s name on the order as that will be how their name appears in the recital program.
  • If you happen to miss Measurement Week you can bring your dancer into the studio for class a bit early the following week and our Reception Staff will be happy to measure them. You could also stop by during our regular hours if there is a time that is more convenient for you.
  • Make sure to read the form in its entirety! There is information there about recital policies that you should be familiar with as you are agreeing with them when you purchase your costumes.

We can’t wait for everyone to see this year’s recital costumes! We know that this year’s recital is going to be amazing, and we’re one step closer to seeing our DC students on stage!
