Attention Parents! Recital Volunteers Needed!
Written by Erin Sforza on April 5, 2021

Every year we send out the call for volunteers to help us with our Recital Production. This year, although we are still putting out that call, there will definitely be some differences in how things will work. We are always so grateful for the wonderful dance parents that help us to provide the best possible recital experience to our Dance Connection families. There are also some great perks for volunteers including being able to see their dancer perform without having to purchase a ticket for the show that they volunteer for, which is really helpful for anyone who has dancers in multiple recital performances!

Here are some descriptions of where we will need help this year:

  • Dancer Supervision: These volunteers help to oversee the Pre-School/Combo Room or general waiting area, helping dancers with costumes, bathroom breaks, and helping to keep groups together for their performance.
  • Changing Areas: Volunteers will help with costume changes, hair and make-up in either the regular or “quick-change” dressing rooms.
  • Stage Crew: These volunteers will help moving set pieces and props, prepping the stage for our dancers, and helping our stage management team. If you are available to help with Dress Rehearsal Week that would be a HUGE help and would allow you to get used to working backstage.
  • Ushers: Volunteers will help people to their seats as well as provide the program for the recital. They may also be asked to electronically scan guest admission at the entrance. Ushers are asked to dress nicely and be ready to provide everyone with excellent customer service.
  • Concessions/Merchandise Sales: These volunteers are asked to provide customer service to recital guests selling snacks/drinks, T-Shirts and other merchandise, as well as assist guests picking up flowers and sell raffle tickets. This area has moments where it is fast-paced but very exciting, and I’d love to see you there!
  • *Security/Parking Guides*: This year we will need volunteers to control crowds and enforce our recital policies (especially the no photo/video policy), maintain the safety of our backstage areas, and newly added this year, we will need volunteers to direct guests to event parking. For this position it is really important to be able to tell someone “no” in a firm but polite manner.

Every year our DC families have volunteered to make sure every dancer is able to have their moment to shine in the safest way possible. We are always willing to train new volunteers (most of the positions are not difficult), and love to see new faces at recital time!
