Getting to Know You: Miss Donna
Written by Rose Ryf on April 8, 2022

Today we are featuring Miss Donna in our latest edition of “Getting to Know You”!  The “Getting to Know You” series helps us get to know each of the Dance Connection teachers and staff we get to see at the studio every week and learn a little bit more about them.

  • What is your favorite thing about teaching dance The thing I love most about teaching dance is sharing my love and passion with dancers from ages 2-adult, and watching their progress over the years. It’s so fulfilling to see them reach their goals and celebrate their growth. I love the freedom, creativity and how I can completely escape a bad mood or day by putting on that music and losing myself in my class!

  • What’s the most daring thing you’ve done? Hmmmm, the most daring thing I’ve done?? This is tough, but I’d probably have to say our Delaware camping trip….I had NO IDEA what I was in for but hubby wanted me to experience it so badly, so I said ok. I wound up loving it! No bathrooms (just the woods), no showers (just the river and a bar of soap), no car (just a canoe and paddles) and a few days away from civilization and electronics.  You get the idea, right?  Lots of beauty, wildlife, sun, rain, laughs and a bunch of fantastic stories to tell. I can tell you that Miss Mary and Miss Melinda think I’m nuts!!

  • What is your favorite childhood memory?   I don’t have 1 specific favorite childhood memory, but one of them is definitely when I got my Pink Barbie Corvette for Christmas!

  •  What is your favorite hobby?  My favorite hobbies are collecting Wizard of Oz memorabilia and spending time at the beach in summer.

  • Who was your favorite dance teacher when you were a child, and why?  My favorite dance teacher when I was little was Miss Toni Thomas. Ahhhh…..the epitome of a ballerina! She was so inspiring and she took a liking to me….she choreographed my ballet solo for my school talent show and came to support me by cheering me on and bringing me a dozen roses. Her absolute love for ballet was so deep and probably one of the reasons I fell so deeply in love with it too. I still think of her to this day and can see her face as clear as day. She was a wonderful, caring, tough, fair teacher who I adored.

  • What song would you sing at Karaoke?  Ok, SOOOOO it all depends on the mood for the karaoke choice, LOL. My absolute top 3 go to songs would be: “It Takes Two” By Rob Bass; “Pour Some Sugar on Me” By Def Leppard; or “Black Velvet” By Alannah Myles. There’s definitely more, but too many to list.
