Getting to Know You: Miss Emily!
Written by Joe Naftal on March 6, 2018

Today we are featuring Miss Emily in our latest edition of “Getting to Know You”!  The “Getting to Know You” series helps us get to know each of the Dance Connection teachers and staff we get to see at the studio every week and learn a little bit more about them.

Miss Emily is our assistant teacher in the Teacher Training Program.  Dance Connection believes in providing a warm, safe, and professional atmosphere where each student is cared for within the Dance Connection family. We are proud to also offer a Teacher Training Program to our more serious students. It is a forum for students to gain training in teaching as well as job responsibility. Enrollment in our Teacher Training Program will provide members with the highest standard of mentoring and guidance. Dance Connection is strongly committed to enriching and nourishing the future teachers and citizens of our community. Regardless of your future career path, Dance Connection feels confident that all members of the Teacher Training Program will leave our program having learned the important life skills of: respect, responsibility, accountability, discipline, confidence, and professionalism.

In her free time, Miss Emily dances, spends time with her family, and reads.

The Civitella has a pet guinea pig named Vader.  It belongs to Miss Emily’s brother, Matthew.

Her favorite song that she’s ever danced to was Arctic Blast “because its such a fun combination of songs and [she] loved being a penguin”.  Her favorite song that she choreographed was Anything is Possible “because it’s such an uplifting song and doing that dance sets [her] free”.

The most challenging step she’s ever learned is a switch leap and she’s still perfecting it.

Miss Emily choses to work at Dance Connection because “[she] grew up at Dance Connection.  It’s [her] safe place, the teachers and students are great and [she] loves it here!”

Miss Emily’s Favorites:

Movie: High Strung
Dance related book:  Life In Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland
Inspirational Quote: “Don’t let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big.” – Unknown
Comfort Food: Ice Cream
Favorite Time of Year at Dance Connection: Recital week!

The best advice that Miss Emily has for our DC students is to “never give up on what you love.  It may be hard sometimes and you may not love every second of every day, but keep going – if you don’t you may regret it!”

Additional Fun Fact:  Miss Emily is our studio manager, Miss Melinda‘s, daughter.
