Getting to Know You: Miss Mary
Written by Rose Ryf on January 25, 2022

Today we are featuring Miss Mary in our latest edition of “Getting to Know You”!  The “Getting to Know You” series helps us get to know each of the Dance Connection teachers and staff we get to see at the studio every week and learn a little bit more about them.

  • What is your favorite thing about teaching dance?  There is so much I love about it, but my favorite thing about teaching dance is The Dancers!!  I am so fortunate to be able to watch so many of them grow up and love seeing them enjoy dance and the stage as much as I do.  They are and always will be my inspiration.

  • What’s the most daring thing you’ve done?  There is so much I love about it, but my favorite thing about teaching dance is The Dancers!!  I am so fortunate to be able to watch so many of them grow up and love seeing them enjoy dance and the stage as much as I do.  They are and always will be my inspiration.

  • What is your favorite childhood memory?  Besides performing for family and friends, I would say one of my favorite memories was a yearly block party in Bayside, Queens where one of my aunts lived.  It was the best block party and she made the best potato salad I have ever tasted.  I have many more, of course, that I am grateful for. And as I get older, I look back and realize how fortunate I am to have wonderful memories to look back on as well as creating new memories daily that will bring me smiles for years to come.

  •  What is your favorite hobby? Owning a dance studio keeps me pretty busy so I don’t get too much time for an extra hobby but I do like organizing things, and if I had time I would like to learn to play the piano.

  • Who was your favorite dance teacher when you were a child, and why? I went to Sandy’s School of Dance in Lindenhurst before college.  She was my sole teacher.  The  passion for dance and the stage I have comes from her inspiration.

  • What song would you sing at Karaoke?  Tough one.  What I would like to sing versus what I would be good at singing are definitely two different things.  I can bust out a great Danny Kaye Thumbelina in my preschool classes but I am not thinking that is a very popular Karaoke song so I will say for that Don’t Stop Believing by Journey.
