Step into Christmas

In December 2018, Dance Connection will produce its first ever Holiday Show, Step into Christmas: A Musical Holiday Spectacular, by the Boston-based playwright, Colleen M. Hughes.  The show will be directed by Mary Naftal and produced by Dance Connection Theatrical with Joe Naftal, Producing Director.  100% of net proceeds will benefit Gavin’s Got Heart.  The show will be December 16 at 11AM at CM Performing Arts Center.

Audition Information

Auditions are open to the Dance Connection community and will be held at the studio Saturday, September 29 between 3:45PM and 8PM.  An exact audition slot schedule for each piece will be available mid-next week.

A number of the pieces in the holiday show will be from the Competition Team’s repertory, while the others will have auditions open to the entire Dance Connection Community.  Casting in these dances will be based on performance at the audition.  The choreographers must see that you “have it” at the audition in order to place you in the piece.  They may also take into account your regular class attendance and classroom behavior/work ethic as well.  The choreographers may also have artistic parameters for certain pieces.  For example, one choreographer may be looking for dancers of a certain height, while another may be looking for an even number of dances vs. an odd number.  Please note that the casting decisions of the choreographers are final.

Financial Commitment

A production/rehearsal fee of $49 will be charged for each audition-based dance participated in.  This fee will be due by the first rehearsal.  In addition to this fee, the dancer will also need to rent or purchase a costume (depending on the piece) and any shoes, tights, hair, makeup, or accessories needed.  Tickets for the show begin at $16 and will be on sale soon!

Audition Information

Because of the limited time frame involved in producing this show, attendance at rehearsals is mandatory.  With the exception of unexpected illness, dancers are expected to attend each of the rehearsals for their pieces.  Any conflicts must be disclosed on your audition form and no conflicts will be accepted after casting.  The tech/dress rehearsal on December 9 is non-negotiable.

Rehearsals begin October 6.

Rehearsals for “Step into Christmas” will be held during the time periods below.  A detailed list of exact rehearsal times will be announced along with casting.  Each dance will rehearse for approximately 30 minutes during these time periods.  Additional rehearsals may be scheduled as required.  Some dances will not rehearse every day listed.

Lyrical dance.  Audition open to male and female dancers ages 13 & up who have completed 3 years of ballet & jazz training.

HOT CHOCOLATE
Musical Theatre/Jazz dance.  Audition open to male and female dancers ages 10 & up who have completed 3 years of jazz training.

I WANNA BE A ROCKETTE
Jazz dance.  Audition open to female dancers ages 11 & up who have completed 3 years of jazz training and have experience dancing in heels.  Please bring heels to audition.

PARADE OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS
Jazz dance.  Audition open to male and female dancers ages 12 & up who have completed 3 years of ballet and jazz training.

SANTA CLAUS
Jazz dance. Audition open to male and female dancers ages 7-10 who are currently studying jazz.

SLEIGH RIDE
Precision tap dance.  Audition open to female dancers ages 13 & up who have completed 3 years of tap training and have experience dancing in heels.  Please bring heels to audition.

NEW PIECE BEING DEVELOPED
Jazz dance.  Audition open to male and female dancers ages 7-10 who are currently studying jazz.

Open Call – Acting Auditions

Acting Auditions are open to everyone.  Anyone from inside or outside the Dance Connection may audition.

CHILDREN – We are casting 2 children (ages 7-12).  Male and female actorsare encouraged to audition. Auditions will be the weekend of October 5-7.  Click here to sign up for auditions.  Please note the acting performers will not be able to be cast in any of the  dance pieces within the show.  A text selection from the playwright will be sent out as an audition side to learn before the audition.

Acting Rehearsals

A blocking rehearsal schedule will be sent out with casting.  Please include any conflicts on your autition form.  In addition, full company rehearsals may be held during these times:
