Make-Up Class or Tutoring: Determining What Option is Best
Written by Erin Sforza on February 20, 2018

It’s inevitable that a dancer will miss class. Everyone gets sick or has unexpected conflicts and obligations that may interfere with making it to class. When that happens you are always able to make up your missed classes in another class that is convenient for you. There is always a chance though, that your dancer may need some extra help catching up on what’s been going on in class. In that circumstance Tutoring is a great way to get back in step. We’ve broken down below when it is best to use each to make sure your dancer is recital ready!

Make-Up Classes

  • When you’ve missed one or two classes and it’s still early in the year.
  • When you’ve missed one class and it’s between January and the end of April.
  • When you’ve missed one or two classes with time in between to catch up on choreography with your fellow students.

Tutoring

  • When you’ve missed multiple classes (3 or more) and it’s still early in the year, it can be helpful to pair a tutoring with your make-up classes just to make sure that you have all your questions answered and someone can focus on making sure you have the correct technique.
  • When you’ve missed two or more classes in a row between January and April tutoring can help you to catch up with your classes.
  • Anytime you’ve missed class in May or June it can be difficult without tutoring to bring a dancer up to speed for their recital performance.
  • If there are certain sections of your recital dance that you are having trouble with, or at any time during the year to help you get that one move you haven’t been able to master.

How to Arrange a Tutoring: If you are looking to schedule a tutoring for your dancer, Miss Emily will happy to figure out a time that she will be able to work with your dancer. Each tutoring session is $20 per half hour and you can leave a request for tutoring with any of the receptionists.

Can My Teacher Tutor Me? Your teacher can definitely help you catch up with your recital choreography, or just what has been going on in class in general, but that is considered a “Private Lesson”. You can talk to your teacher to schedule a private lesson or request one through the receptionists. Private lessons are $35 per half hour or $60 per hour, and a package of 4 hour-long private lessons can also be booked for $220. You can get more info in your Welcome Booklet, or by seeing one of the receptionists next time you are in the studio.

Whether you are brushing up on classwork or prepping and polishing for recital, we can help you find the extra help you need to really shine!
