Office Staff

Dance Connection is seeking to expand its office staff for its 29th season.  Our performing arts school has an emphasis on excellence and love for the art of dance with a large student base of dancers aged 2 to adult.  Serving dancers throughout both Suffolk and Nassau counties, we are conveniently located one block south of Southern State Parkway and just one mile north of Sunrise Highway in Islip, NY.  We pride ourselves on fostering a sense of teamwork among our teachers, operating with a professionally managed office and administrative staff, and offering many opportunities for growth to all of the artists that work for us.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a happy, friendly, outgoing, people’s person with a patient, professional, and positive attitude.
  • Good communication skills
  • Punctual, reliable, and trustworthy.
  • Experience in office, customer service, or sales preferred.
  • Must be able to multi-task and be a fast learner who works well in a busy environment and under pressure.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Computer skills: Should be knowledgeable in MS Word and Excel, as well as be 
a fast learner with new computer applications.
  • Office Staff are provided with a business email account at our domain name and are required to check and reply to their business email on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept 
direction on given assignments, Able to work collectively with the studio 
management team.
  • Must be good with children of all ages as well as parents. Office staff 
should be able to deal with stressed parents and keep them calm and informed if they are disgruntled.

Requirements:

  • An appreciation for the arts and a basic understanding of dance from a dance studio standpoint.
  • Managing first impressions at Dance Connection; welcoming, registering and processing students using our own account/student management software.
  • Answering phones warmly, professionally providing company information in detail, taking messages, delivering messages to correct person & return calls to customers, vendors.
  • Collect detailed information from potential customers that come to the studio or call, send them brochures / flyers, and enter their information into our system.
  • Data entry, filing, and other office activities.
  • Driving sales at the studio level.
  • Cleaning – empty trash, vacuum, bathrooms, etc.
  • Cash register management; Must be able to make change and handle cash, check, and credit card orders.
  • Maintaining a clean and professional lobby area.
  • Organize front desk and office areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • A background in theatre, dance, music, sales, or education is a preferred, but not required.
  • Fluency or familiarity with Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Availability: Fridays 4:00-8:00PM. Start date September 13 with on-site training beforehand. Contract runs through June 2020. Additional double-up and substitute hours available.
