Recital Company Rehearsals Are Underway!
Written by Erin Sforza on February 6, 2018

We are one step closer to Recital Time! This weekend our Recital Company met to rehearse for the first time, and everyone jumped right in prepping this year’s performances of a Beauty and the Beast Medley, and our Petite Company’s performance of “It’s A Hard Knock Life” from the musical Annie.

Rehearsal on Saturday began with Artistic Director Mary Naftal explaining the rules and expectations of the company to all of the recital company members.  The dancers then watched the Broadway and motion picture versions of their respective dances on Dance Connection’s in-studio television screens.

At breaktime, the dancers sat in a circle enjoying a snack while Miss Mary went around the room and had each dancer introduce themselves as well as tell the room a fun fact about themselves.  Miss Mary encouraged the company to sit with a new dancer for break each week to meet new friends and learn something new about their peer company members.

The two groups then separated and reviewed the choreography learned at the audition as well as added on new choreography.  The rehearsal ended with both groups performing what they’ve learned for each other!

Soon they will be on the hunt to put together their costumes and begin rehearsing their changes from scene to scene. Every year the Recital Company performance is an amazing number to see, and we are so thankful to our performers, changers backstage, and the countless volunteers that help to make the 10-plus minute production possible!

During Dress Rehearsal Week, the Recital Company will rehearse different pieces of the performance and then put them all together in a full run on Friday night. The first performers you see at recital will be the last ones to leave the stage during Dress Rehearsal Week!

If the first rehearsal is any indication, we’ve got two amazing productions to share with you at this year’s recital in June!
