Record-breaking Recital Company Auditions, Once Again

On Sunday, January 13th, fifty nine dancers auditioned for the 2019 Recital Company – once again, the largest number of auditionees in Dance Connection history! Each year, the Recital Company performs a featured production number for our Annual Recital Production (usually opening the show). The company offers members a fantastic additional performance opportunity, teaching them commitment and professionalism, while also exposing them to additional dance training and choreography.

This year, for Dance Connection’s 30th Anniversary, the recital company will perform a reprise of the 2001 and 2009 recital opening, Lion King.

In the morning, the recital company choreographers had their traditional audition day breakfast & lunch – morning buns from Stanley’s Bakery and sandwiches and salads from Parkville Plaza Deli. Dancers auditioning for our junior & senior recital companies arrived and learned some of the “Circle of Life” choreography from Miss Tiffany, some of the “Fight Scene” choreography from Miss Donna and some of the for “Just Can’t Wait to Be King” choreography from Miss Jenn and Miss Victoria.

After the junior & senior company auditions, Miss Mary lead a Parent Meeting for new members to our Petite company.  She explained the commitments involved, the expectations of the dancers from the teachers, as well as gave her heartfelt advice for new parents on how to best support their dancers through both the audition process and company rehearsals.  The petite company dancers learned choreography for “Morning Report” and “Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from Miss Jenn and Miss Victoria and some of the choreography from “Circle of Life” from Miss Melinda.

Overall, the dancers had a fun, positive, and dance-filled audition day.  Audition result letters will be sent out next week and our first Recital Company rehearsal the first weekend of February!
