Opening for Summer 2018 Season
Part Time:  Summer Camp Teacher

Dance Connection is seeking to expand its staff for its 2018 summer camp season. We are looking for a creative and energetic candidate to supplement our faculty of professional dance teachers.  The ideal candidate is eager to learn the curriculum of our camp programs and is open to critique and willing to work to continue to grow their experience and talent as a camp teacher.  The summer camp teacher will lead students with activities, crafts, movie time, snack time, and some movement activities.  The summer camp teacher will also be responsible for supervision, classroom management, and student safety.

Our summer offerings include themed camps such as a princess/prince camp, a superhero camp a rockstar camp, a Broadway camp, etc.  Depending on which camp week, the ages may range from 3-5, 5-7, and/or 8-12.

Our performing arts school has an emphasis on excellence and love for the art of dance with a large student base of dancers aged 2 to adult.  This summer will be the start of our 30th season serving dancers throughout both Suffolk and Nassau counties.  Conveniently located one block south of Southern State Parkway and just one mile north of Sunrise Highway in Islip, NY.  We pride ourselves on fostering a sense of teamwork among our teachers, operating with a professionally managed office and administrative staff, and offering many opportunities for growth to all of the artists that work for us.

Availability:  For our 2018 summer season, camps run between June 25 thru August 24.  Staffing for each camp is determined on a camp by camp basis.  Full day camps run from 9:00am-3:00pm (8:30am-3:30pm for teacher) and half day camps run from 10:00am-12:30pm (9:30am-1:00pm for teacher).   We typically schedule multiple camp teachers for each camp, often with camp teachers splitting which days of the camp they work or splitting a full day into two shifts.

Requirements: 

• A love of teaching children.
• Experience as a dance teacher, school teacher, or summer camp teacher.
• Effective classroom management skills, of both students and assistant teachers.
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional, organized, proactive, and friendly attitude.
• Ability to use the internet and email.
• A dance, music, or theatre background is preferred.
• Certification in first aid or CPR is a plus.
• A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• While our teachers are free to hold employment elsewhere, we require an exclusivity from dance studios within a 20-mile radius of our location.
• A B.S. or B.A. in Education (especially Early Childhood Education) is a plus, but not required.
