The Dance Connection Difference
Written by Erin Sforza on September 17, 2019

Here at Dance Connection we are well aware that there are a ton of studios to choose from in our area. It is truly fantastic that there are so many opportunities for young dancers to find a “happy place” where they can develop their skills and their passion for dance. With that said, we are so grateful for the wonderful families that have trusted our teachers and staff with their children’s dance education.

Every studio has their own philosophy and aspects that set them apart from other studios. Here are a few things that we take a lot of pride in that we feel set Dance Connection apart.

Passion for Dance and Education is First: It would be great if every dancer that walked through our doors was ready for leaps and combination turns at age 4, but teaching that way would do our students a grave disservice. Our teachers are always excited to see both the potential and progress of our young dancers and we are as excited as everyone else to see where their training takes them, but we know that their training is so important and that it will be the basis of their aptitude in the future. Our teachers focus on bringing each dancer through a progression that fits their individual skill level and development so they will perform each move safely and correctly, and build on those skills in the years to come.

Party Weeks: We are a holiday kind of studio, and if you haven’t yet celebrated with us, just wait for October! Party weeks here at Dance Connection are serious business for the staff who put in countless hours making sure everything is just right for the magic of every party week to bring happiness to our dancers and their families. These weeks help to build and solidify the friendships between our dancers and the relationship they share with our teachers and our staff. There is always room for fun and smiles at our studio!

Costume Selection: Our teachers put a lot of hard work into finding the perfect costumes for each recital number. It begins with deciding on the songs for each class performance and then scouring dance costume catalogs for different options. After narrowing down the best two or three for each dance, our teachers descend on the UDMA Costume Show to see every single costume in person and inspect it for look, fit and quality to make sure that we would feel good about bringing it back to our dancers and their parents. They also get evaluated for price so that our students get the best possible value for their costumes.

Our Recital: It’s a giant production that takes a mountain of effort from staff and our amazing volunteers alike. With sets, professional lighting and projections, props, and the fantastic annual opening number production we have a recital experience like no other around. We are so happy to give our students a recital that is fitting for the amount of effort they put into a year’s worth of classes and allows them to celebrate all of their accomplishments that year.

Our Community Involvement: Dance Connection has always been guided by Miss Mary’s passion for using the gift of dance to improve the lives of your community around you. Every year we have our Giving Tree which helps to provide a happy holiday for several families in need in our area. Our performance team and production company dancers participate in fundraising performances that last year raised over $10,000 for local charities including Gavin’s Got Heart and Make-A-Wish of Suffolk County. Our dancers also perform at Make-A-Wish events, in the Islip Town Holiday Parade, and at a Long Island Ducks game each year.

Our teachers and staff are incredibly proud of the studio we run, and we hope that the Dance Connection difference always gives you and your family a welcoming, positive, and fun place for your dancer to develop a love for the art of dance.
