Getting to Know You: Miss Jenn!
Today we are featuring Miss Jenn in our latest edition of “Getting to Know You”! The “Getting to Know You” series helps us get to know each of the Dance Connection teachers and staff we get to see at the studio every week and learn a little bit more about them.
What is your hometown? Bay Shore
What’s the story of how you became a dancer? When I was six years old, I asked my mom if I could take a dance class. From then I was hooked – numerous dance classes, competitions, and performances. It was an amazing journey. It wasn’t until I joined the Dance Connection family in 1996 that realized I wanted to become a Dance Teacher. I became apart of The Teacher Training Program and loved every second of it! I was always trying to figure out ways to add on more classes to teach I couldn’t get enough.
What impact has dance had on your life? Dance has taught me so many amazing life lessons. It has taught me confidence, passion, how to let go and be free, and how to let my worries escape me. Most of all it gave me a second family.
Why did you start teaching dance? I started teaching dance because it became a passion and the joy of teaching what I love to students is the most amazing feeling.
What are you passionate about outside dance? Living my best life one day at a time and not sweating all the small things to look at the bigger picture and embrace it. And I am especially proud of being a part of the Wingman Program.
What question do you wish students would ask sooner rather than later? How? How is it done? Can you show me again? I always encourage my students to ask questions so they really can know and understand.
In your opinion, what makes dance such a great activity and art form? Dance has endless limitations. Dance lets you express your feelings – good, bad, happy, or sad.
