Frequently Asked Questions
Tap is a rhythmic dance style where dancers use their feet like drums, striking the floor with metal tap shoes to create intricate sounds and patterns. It emphasizes musicality, timing, and expression, making it a fun and engaging way to develop coordination and rhythm.
We offer tap classes for dancers starting at age 7, with programs that progress through beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels for both recreational and serious dancers.
Tap classes focus on:
Foundational tap steps (shuffles, flaps, time steps, etc.)
Musical timing, rhythm, and syncopation
Foot articulation and clarity of sounds
Choreography that combines rhythm and performance
Tap history and appreciation of American dance traditions
As students advance, they learn more complex combinations and develop their unique rhythmic voice.
Tap builds:
Precise musicality and timing
Strong lower body coordination
Listening skills and rhythmic awareness
Confidence through solo and ensemble work
Tap is also a proud part of American dance heritage, rooted in African American and Irish dance traditions, and provides a deep connection to the history of the art form.
Nope! We welcome beginners of all ages, as well as experienced tappers looking to continue or return to their training. Placement is based on age and experience.
Yes! Tap dancers have the exciting option to participate in our annual June recital. It’s a fun and confidence-building experience, but completely optional. Costumes are ordered in December, and recital tickets go on sale in May. Whether or not your child performs, they’ll still enjoy a full season of joyful movement and learning.
