Getting to Know You: Miss Tara!
Written by Joe Naftal on November 7, 2017

Today we are featuring Miss Tara from our office staff  in our latest edition of “Getting to Know You” for our 2017-2018 dance year!  The “Getting to Know You” series helps us get to know each of the Dance Connection teachers and staff we get to see at the studio every week and learn a little bit more about them.

In her free time, Miss Tara thoroughly enjoys spending time with her family.  Whether they are cuddled up on the soda watching a movie or taking a weekend excursion to see and do something they haven’t done before, spending time with them brings her so much joy.  She also enjoys crafting and catching up with friends over coffee.

Miss Tara and her family have two dogs, a boxer and a morkie (maltese/yorkie mix) and seven happy chickens!

Miss Tara does not have a dance background.  She did try ballet when she was in elementary school, but it wasn’t for her.  Knowing how much she loved the arts, her mother signed her up with a summer theater group and she had the opportunity to perform for her local area and learn about the stage.  She was also a member of her school’s chorus for 8 years.  Miss Tara’s college major was history.  She enjoys the drama, tragedy, and sometimes comedy of the world’s greatest story.  The majority of her college electives were spent in theatre arts classes!

The most challenging thing Miss Tara ever learned in life is that “it’s not about you, it’s about them, and you will always need to come to an acceptance of yourself and your situation.”

What Miss Tara likes best about working at Dance Connection is “the environment of the studio.  It’s a happy place filled with music, glitter, smiles, and tutus.  Who else gets to say they spend time working around that?  It’s so much fun!”

Miss Tara’s Favorites:

Movies: Gone With the Wind, Cold Mountain, and Wuthering Heights
Book:  Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
Inspirational Quote: “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different” – C.S. Lewis
Comfort Food: Medium rare steak with caramelized onions on top, served over creamy mashed potatoes followed by a hot caramel macchiato!
Favorite Time of Year at Dance Connection: Halloween Party Week because “the kids come up with the greatest ideas for costumes”. Miss Tara loves seeing their imaginations run wild.  Miss Tara also enjoys the traditions of Halloween Party Week, explaining “hearing the ‘Witches Brew’ song brings back memories of when my daughter was in the combo class.”

The best advice that Miss Tara has for our DC students is to “be bold and courageous so that when you look back you won’t regret doing something you wish you did.”  For our DC parents, she suggests “recognize the moments you’d like to freeze time.”
