Goal Check In: We Can See the Finish Line!!
With the holidays behind us and everyone being in a “goal setting” mood, now is the perfect time to check-in on those dance year goals that you set way back in September!
I’m not sure about you, but September seems like years ago at this point. Despite that feeling though it’s only been about 19 weeks, and some of those were holiday weeks! We know that you have been working hard in the studio, so here are some guidelines for reviewing how far you’ve taken yourself in those 19 weeks.
- Revisit your goals and read through them again, including the steps you laid out to get you to the finish line. (Hopefully you wrote them down!)
- If you haven’t been doing this all along, check off the tasks you’ve completed up until now. It feels good to see your accomplishments and actually has been proven to motivate you to continue!
- Take an honest, but fair look at each goal and each step. Did you miss a few markers on your map? That’s completely okay! Make sure to evaluate why it happened. Maybe their should have been a step in between, or maybe you ran into a lack of time, were sick, or your schedule changed and you haven’t gotten into a routine yet. All of these reasons are valid, and taking a look can help you to readjust to help you get back on track.
- Re-write your goals and the steps left to achieve them. It will give you a visible “fresh start” in case you need it, and it will look a lot less intimidating with fewer steps to your goal. If you have accomplished one of your goals is their another you can add to replace it? Remember: be realistic about how much time you have between now and recital. Don’t stress yourself out!
- Check in with your teachers for guidance and advice if you don’t know how to get back on track, or need a suggestion for a reasonable new goal for the next few months.
No matter how far along your path you are, any progress you have made is positive, and you should celebrate that! We hope that the new year brings wonderful new achievements for you and your teachers are here to help you if you need them!
