In Step With DC
It’s National “Thank A Dance Teacher” Day!
Written by Erin Sforza on May 3, 2018

We are so fortunate at Dance Connection! We have great students, and wonderful families who fill our studio all year long. A big reason for that is our fantastic teachers.

From open to close every day our teachers are committed to providing each student with the best possible dance education that they can. They are constantly looking for ways to improve their technique, engage their students, and inspire them to carry a love and appreciation of dance throughout their lives.

Beyond the classes that they teach, our teachers also spend hours selecting the songs and costumes for each of their classes, choreographing for the recital both on their own and collaborating with other teachers whose classes have the same song, selecting sets and propound making sure every student is perfectly placed in their classes stage line-up.

During their classes not only are they teaching young dancers, they are also mentoring the next generation of teachers as well. They are the most important part of our teacher training program, guiding students beginning at age 9 all the way up through the program until they can become teachers themselves.

They also help to keep the studio as spotless and healthy as possible (which is no small feat during cold season) and they also help with seasonal tasks such as decorating, de-decorating, and different studio maintenance projects.

You’ll see them out in force before recital, wrapping scenery, helping to load trucks with what seems like our entire studio, unloading at the venue and helping with set-up. During dress rehearsal week they are there to guide and support their classes, as well as answer parent questions and then set-up the entire cafeteria and quick change areas to prep for recital weekend. After all the fun is over for another year – you guessed it – they help with breaking down, packing up, and restoring everything in the studio a few weeks before they start teaching their summer classes!

Some of our teachers also choreograph and assist with the Dance Connection Competition Team as well, traveling to performances that range from competitions both regional and national to the Make A Wish of Suffolk County Holiday Party and Islip Town parades.

They are an amazingly dedicated group and we are so grateful for the true care, love, and expertise they put into every class and every student. Thank you Miss Mary, Miss Melinda, Miss Donna, Miss Jenn, Miss Molly, Miss Arial, Miss Christina, Miss Victoria, Miss Melissa, Miss Tiffany, Miss Nikki, and Miss Brooke-Ashley for all you do!

If you’d like to thank your teacher, feel free to leave a comment below, or even better, thank them when you see them at your next class!
