Getting to Know You: Mr. Joe!
Written by Joe Naftal on March 19, 2019

Today we are featuring Mr. Joe in our latest edition of “Getting to Know You”!  The “Getting to Know You” series helps us get to know each of the Dance Connection teachers and staff we get to see at the studio every week and learn a little bit more about them.

What is your hometown?

I grew up in Great River and currently live in New York City.

Why did you start working at Dance Connection?

I was born into the business (quite literally).  My birthday was exactly two weeks before Dance Connection’s 6th dance recital.  I chose to work at Dance Connection years later because I truly believe in what we do, am amazed by how far we’ve grown, and am excited to be a part of helping us continue to grow.

What are you passionate about?

Outside of my work at Dance Connection, I am passionate about my hobbies – theatre, art, travel, cooking, and photography.

What is one thing you want to tell all of our students and/or parents?

Never underestimate the privilege you have to receive an arts education.  Even if you never plié or shuffle again, what you learn will continue to help you through everything you do professional and personally every day.

In your opinion, what makes dance such a great activity and art form?

Dance is an amazing art form because it’s movement-based and transcends language.  Everyone can share in the experience and enjoy it.

College and Major?

BFA in Lighting Design from University of North Carolina School of the Arts

Favorite Color?

Red, Gray, and Black

Secret Talent?

I wrote a book that’s been published in the US, Canada, England, and Australia.
