Benchmarks – Checking In With Your Goals
It’s the last day of January, and while everyone else is just starting on their goals for the year, we will be checking in on our progress. Now is the time to take a step back and evaluate where you are vs. where you wanted to be by this point in the year, as well as by the end of the year.
At the beginning of the year we took our larger goals and broke them down into smaller steps to make them easier to achieve. Take a look at the “road map” you’ve created and see how many of those smaller steps you’ve taken. Have you let these goals slip a little? Are you further along than you thought you would be?
You should also check in with your teachers and get their input on where you are, and what adjustments might need to be made to get you to your goal. Remember, the corrections you are receiving in class every week are being given to help you progress and grow as a dancer, they are a positive thing. Your teachers are investing their time and knowledge in helping you because they believe in your potential as a dancer and they want to see you succeed.
Once you have taken a look at your progress it’s time to adjust your goal to make it realistic based on what you’ve learned. You may be able to up the difficulty of your goal, or maybe you need to scale it back. Once you adjust your larger goal make sure to change up that “road map” of smaller steps that will get you there.
Finally, whether you are behind your goal, ahead of your goal, or exactly where you wanted to be at this point make sure that you celebrate how far you’ve come and everything you’ve achieved so far. Congratulations on making it to this point! We know you’ll have plenty more to celebrate at the end of the dance year.
