First-time Parent FAQ
Written by Erin Sforza on September 6, 2019

It’s almost time to begin another exciting year at Dance Connection, and we are busily preparing to welcome our dancers, parents and siblings back into the studio! The start of a new year brings a lot of anticipation, and sometimes our new families have some questions about all of the fun that is to come. Below are a few of the most common questions answered.

Q: What does my dancer need to wear?

Terrific Twos – Please Wear Comfortable Clothing! Dance outfit & Ballet shoes are permitted but not required.

First Steps Preschool / Cool Kids Combo – Girls wear leotard and tights-any color, any style. Boys wear dance pants and a T-shirt. Ballet shoes and Tap shoes are needed for this class. Ballet shoe ties should be tucked in. For Preschool 1 classes, Tap shoes will be needed starting in October.

Ballet – Female students wear black leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes (no socks). A ballet skirt may be worn; however, the length may not pass the knee. Shoes should fit snugly. Male students wear black dance pants, plain white T-shirt, and black ballet shoes.

Jazz/Hip Hop – Female students wear leotard and tights and/or dance pants. Male students wear black dance pants and a T-shirt.

Tap – Female students wear leotard and tights and/or dance pants. Male students must wear black dance pants and a T-shirt. Tap shoes are required for this class.

*All other classes/workshops, please consult the teacher for dress code requirements*

Q: Can I drop off my dancer for class? Can I stay for class if I choose?

Yes and yes! We know that many of our dancers are old enough to be dropped off for class and be picked up afterwards, but some parents of our younger students may feel more comfortable staying. You are welcome to choose what works best for you and your family. Please be aware that siblings who are not enrolled in classes may not be left unattended in the studio. If you have siblings whose classes overlap and one will be waiting for pickup, please alert our receptionists and they will have your child wait at the desk until they are picked up.

Q: What is the best way to pay tuition?

We have several options for you to make tuition payments which include online account payment, by phone, or directly with our receptionists. You may also arrange to have auto-pay set up for your account as well. For more info please ask our staff and they will assist you in setting up your account.

Q: How do costumes work? Is the recital mandatory?

The recital is a wonderful way for your dancer to showcase all of the year’s hard work and to perform in front of family and friends. We do understand that not every dancer is interested in performing and so the recital is not mandatory. We will measure for costumes in November, and you will receive a costume worksheet which will give you information on pricing, sizing, and ordering. Our whole staff will be available to answer your costume questions and assist you with ordering if you prefer to do so at the reception desk. The costume order deadline is Saturday, December 7th.

Q: What happens if we miss a class?

We all know that during the year it will be very likely that you will have to miss a class due to a scheduling conflict or illness. No worries! You are able to “make-up” the missed one by attending a class on another day that suits your schedule. You have up to 2 months to do so which will give you time to find a class that you can attend with the help of our receptionists.

Hopefully we’ve been able to answer some of your biggest “first day” questions, but if you should have others please know that your teachers and studio staff are here to help in any way that we can. We look forward to welcoming you back for another fantastic year!
