Miss Nyomi kicks it with the Rockettes!
Written by Erin Sforza on August 22, 2019

During the summer, the Radio City Rockettes offer summer intensive classes that give dancers a behind the scenes look at what it takes to be a part of one of the most famous shows on Broadway. They offer two types of intensive, a 3-day mini-intensive for ages 13 and up with a minimum of 5 years dance training in tap, jazz, and ballet, and a week-long intensive for ages 15 and up which offers classes in Theater Dance, Jazz, Tap, Kick Line, Formations and Performance and participants get to perform in a showcase at the conclusion of their intensive. This year, Miss Nyomi, a member of our Teacher Training Program, and member of our Dance Connection Performance Company participated in the mini-intensive and told us what her experience was like and what she enjoyed about it the most.

“I had a great time working with the Rockettes instructors and all of the dancers who had traveled from all over the country to be there. The day went from 9:30am-5pm and we learned 4 different pieces of choreography from the Rockettes performances. I definitely want to audition for the week-long intensive next summer when I’m old enough!”

Miss Nyomi and her fellow performers were also treated to a backstage tour of the theater and a Q & A session with photo opportunities with their Rockettes instructors to round out this amazing dance experience. They will be able to take the advice and training they received back into their home studio classrooms this fall!

The Dance Connection Performance Team has also offered the opportunity for dancers to participate in the Rockettes Experience for team members 10 years of age and up which includes a 2 hour class, 45-minute mock audition, and a Q & A session and photo opportunity with a Rockettes instructor.
