Recital Company Audition Tips
Written by Erin Sforza on January 24, 2022

It may seem like it’s a long way away,  but our recital is coming fast! We’ll be holding our annual Recital Company Auditions on Saturday, January 29th, so we thought it would be great to get some helpful tips from our amazing teachers!

My tips for Recital Company Auditions would be to come to the audition ready to have a good time! Yes, it is an audition but try to relax and enjoy the day. I would also say to remember it is not just about the steps, we are looking for stage presence, energy level, and if you are capturing the style of the dance. Do we need you to be an angry lion from Lion King or a happy munchkin from the Land of Oz, the steps could be the same for the dance but the way you dance them would be very different.

Try not to be Nervous just go in and have FUN!
Miss Jenn
For all who decided to audition for recital company the best advice I can give is to stay calm and enjoy the experience and have fun.
Mr. Billy
My advice for dancers during auditions is to keep smiling and don’t give up. You just keep trying your best!
Miss Erin
Since it will the first time auditioning for a lot of students very often the nerves can get to you but if you just try to relax and have fun you’ll enjoy the moment so much more.
Miss Dejia
My advice for Recital Company auditions would be to research the piece that we are doing and watch the clips of videos we send so you can be as prepared as possible and be familiar with the style of the piece.
Miss Donna
Facilities Manager
Have fun! Of course you want to work hard and try your best for an audition, but focusing on the fun makes the experience a little less stressful, and can lead to better results overall!
Miss Ava
My advice for recital company auditions would be to come into the audition with a positive mind set no matter how advanced the dances may seem for your ability. As soon as you say you can’t do it or you won’t make it, you’ve already setting yourself up for failure. Always smile and make it look like you know the dance because if you have a great smile it definitely helps smooth over any steps you may miss. Take advantage of the time you get to practice the dances while the other dancers are in the audition process so you have a better chance of remembering what you just learned!
Miss Sarah
My best audition tip is to take the audition as if you are taking a new and exciting class!
Miss Stacey

Another great tip is to set up a tutoring with one of our teachers before the audition to help you get ready, and our Reception staff and teachers will be happy to help with that!  Auditions will be Saturday, January 29th and times are as follows:

  • Petite/Junior Company (ages 7-10) auditions will be from 2:15-4:30pm
  • Teen/Senior Companies  (ages 11 & up) will audition from 5:00-6:45pm.
  • Those who have never auditioned for the recital company before may want to attend a parent/dancer meeting to be held at 4:45pm.
